The video streaming platform also announced that it will roll out a TikTok-like short video section called ‘Shorts’. The updates include a new interface for tablets and an update to YouTube’s video chapters feature. This comes a few days after YouTube announced a slew of updates to enhance the experience for both creators and viewers. Those who don’t see the update on their apps can check the Google Play Store for any pending updates. Select Quality, then you should be able to see the 2160p HDR resolution as an option, if the feature has been rolled out on your device.Īccording to reports, the update comes with YouTube Android version 16.06.34 that was rolled out on Febraury 18 on several devices. In order to check if their smartphone is showing the new 4K option, users need to open any YouTube video, then click on the three dots menu on the top right corner of the screen. We at News18 checked for ourselves if the feature is live, but it did not show on our OnePlus 7 Pro running on Android 10. This was first spotted by Android Police and is now reported to be showing up on several Android devices. This was the case even if their display supported a higher resolution on their smartphones, and even if the video is uploaded in 4K resolution.Īndroid users will now be able to see an additional option in the video quality settings – 2160p (4K) HDR. Until now, Android users could only watch YouTube videos at a maximum 1440p resolution. YouTube’s iOS app also has 4K playback support. 4K support had already existed in the Android app, given that the video is uploaded in the ultra high-definition resolution.

Unable to log on to most websites Sorry for the confusion with my initial post - I thought you meant streaming as in live game-streaming. What's your graphics cards? Have you tried different browsers yet? Got the latest drivers installed? which makes all the difference in the world. Chrome doesn't use it effectively and IE does. The Intel HD 4400 graphics has dedicated decode hardware. But if I play the same content on IE or Edge it plays seamlessly, stays cool and lasts 3 times as long. Have you tried other web browsers? I gets tons of dropped frames trying to play content on my Surface using Google Chrome, plus it melts the battery and the device gets crazy hot. Some software is better at this than others.
The issue is that the software you're using to play the videos needs to be aware of your hardware and how to utilise the dedicate decode. That means that well programmed software can take key stages of the video decode process away from the CPU and allow it to be completed by those hardware resources, which are tailor-made to decode video. Most graphics cards (IGPs) have dedicated video decode hardware built in.
Oh, sorry - I totally misread your question.
